Login to Website using Facebook

For this integration we’re using the Facebook Connect Plugin by Adam Hupp.

This integration allows users to ‘log in’ using their Facebook Credentials – allowing them to bypass the Registration process. Within the CMS, this creates an arbitrary Username and thus is ‘externally authenticated’ and we don’t have to worry about whether they are a Spammer/etc. (Facebook takes care of that). Drawback is that the Email Address is not available for export/creating a list.

If user is logged onto FaceBook and goes to this site, it will ask for Permission similar to when any App asks for permission to run the Facebook code.

To use Facebook Connect you will first need to get a Facebook API Key:

  • Visit the Facebook application registration page.
  • Enter a descriptive name for your blog in the “Application Name” field. This will be seen by users when they sign up for your site.
  • Submit
  • Copy the displayed API Key and Secret into this form.
  • Recommended: Upload icon images on the app configuration page. These images are seen as the icon in newsfeed stories and when the user is registering with your application
